Winter Wedding Ontario

Winter Wedding Ontario

We boarded Polar Princess this morning and have traveled from Moosonee on James Bay and are now returning to visit the island of Moose Factory, before returning in Moosonee. Our island tour is beginning.

The arrival on the island, we walked a short distance from a school bus. Here too, the roads are dirt. Our guide, Rachel *, told us a bit of the island before the start of the bus because he could not speak in noise. The hospital is heated by steam, and housing for health professionals. A diesel engine powers the steam machine connected to 6-inch pipe in the air supply steam to the hospital and housing for staff. This reminded me of your and son hanging from electricity poles.

This hospital serves the community 300 miles north, instead of 600 in the past. Paramedics at the Moosonee, MD, although no services are available, while the patient is transported from the mainland to the island hospital. Patients are transported in the river during the summer and ice road during winter. The months of freezing and spring break needs a helicopter to transport a patient. There is a heliport near the hospital.

The spring can bring flooding to the residents of the island with boats home binding if the need to escape. When the Hudson's Hudson Bay Company first established the island as its New World Headquarters employees have built a church, the Anglican Church was built. It is there but is blocked, requiring repairs. I loved visiting the church.

After the church was built the spring flood came, lifting of the church, its foundations. To avoid losing your house of worship of employees rose to their canoes, ropes attached to the building and fired back. This time, the holes drilled into the ground to keep it. If a flood can pull the plugs to drain the water, saving the church. Plans are in place and requested that is preserved as a heritage site. Hopefully that will happen.

Our first stop was at an Interpretation Center Creek. Several tepees were observed. The first Built in birch bark. It would take a maximum of six family members. Another was long enough for four families. Rocks aligned in a kitchen instead conducted.

Another tepee is only used for cooking after a hunting season. A meeting room looked like a tent in the air around 50 square meters. It has been used for meetings, weddings and other community activities. The school had skins of various animals such as wolf, fox and moose, which are interesting. From there we went through residential areas. Rachel * said in tepees many courses where the game is cooked after a hunt.

Staff the house lay the Hudson Bay was part of the tour. It consisted of several rooms, exhibition halls now are lower, a bedroom, tool room, doctors in the room. All rooms have different displays historical artifacts of the era. A cemetery was near, I went in, but not really investigate.

The visit ended as we returned to the dock. Back on land, both received a certificate attesting that "defied the dew of James Bay and was sprayed with salt water from the Arctic. "It is dated and signed by the guide and the captain, identified as" Os tidewatcher old "Ye old master '.

We went back to bed and breakfast to relax in the comfort of their own "room" community of comfortable armchairs and relaxation. About 4:30 we the Catholic Church to see its stained glass windows, including the bishops, pope, Jesus, and one picture of a moose.

Then we went to the station, met with our new friends, visited until 5:30 am when we climb aboard for the trip and 5 hours back to Cochrane. A visit to one of the officers to conclude the night and shipping Moosonee.
