Australia painter, sculptor, scale modeler, writer and artist Norman Lindsay (Lindsay Norman Alfred William) was born February 22, 1879 in Creswick, Victoria. It was the fifth child of his parents, Robert Lindsay, Irish surgeon, and Jane Lindsay. At age 16, Lindsay left to Melbourne and worked as an illustrator for the local journal, the "Hawklet. He married Agatha Catherine Parkinson in Melbourne, 23 May 1900. They had three children, Jack, and Philippe Raymond, and in 1918 they divorced.

In 1902, Rose Soady, which became his second wife, began to ask Norman. During his stay in Europe from 1909 to 1911, Lindsay has 100 illustrations in pen and ink "Satyricon of Petronio, "in Naples. He also made sketches of ship models that were present at the Museum of South Kensington, London. It created a passion for model Lindsay ships that lasted throughout his life. He returned to Australia in 1911. On January 14, 1920, he married Rose Soady and had two children with her.
