Attending the wedding, the color of your dress to avoid?

I am a bridesmaid in November and attend a wedding in February. I will probably buy a beautiful (but not too expensive), clothing and avoiding duplication of effort. I try to spend less than $ 300. I wondered what the guests at the wedding in color should not be, especially for the reception? I think black is too dark and terrible. : White / ivory reserved for the bride? Thank you!
