What shoes should I wear?

Here's the problem .. I'm short (5'4 ") in overweight but not obese. I Nice thick legs, but my ankles are thick. I wear heels, but I do not wear heels very often. A friend suggested slippers but I also read that someone like me should not wear shoes with heels thickness. Can anyone suggest a pair of shoes for me to go with the dress? Victoria's Secret has a sale of shoes today and New York and the company has a sale also. Help please thanks.
