Unique wedding locations in Akron, OH?

My fiance and I would like to have a different location than just a hall or hotel for our wedding reception. Does anyone know of any places? We would prefer to bring in our own caterer, and the wedding will be in October (2009) so I’d rather not have an outdoor location. Thanks in advance.

If you’re willing to travel about an hour (depending on where in Akron you are coming from) this place is great – www.mohicangardens.com. It’s in Loudonville near the Mohican State Park – a beautiful area with lots of other attractions and various lodging options from primitive camping to resorts and quaint bed & breakfasts.

Mohican Gardens is a private, retail greenhouse/conservatory that provides a gorgeous backdrop for a same site wedding and reception. I’m a big fan of this (having both in the same place) for both economical and convenience reasons. They have the actual conservatory that can accommodate something around 300 people or a smaller barn if you want a more rustic feel. I’m getting married in the conservatory this September and what I love the most is that we get the “feel” of an outdoor garden wedding with the safety of cover in the event of that inclement weather that always looms in Ohio. I haven’t “researched” October weather much, but there is a pergola out by a beautiful lake or the actual gardens for a smaller group if weather permitted and you wanted to have your actual ceremony outdoors and then a reception under cover.

I feel the rental is very affordable, includes tables/chairs for up to 200 guests, you are not required to use any specific caterer, and the owners have been great to work with. Admittedly, with my wedding still a couple moths away, I can’t confirm flawless execution yet…I can get back to you later if you’re interested though!
