Bride And Groom Shirts
Is it okay for my groom to wear no suit jacket?
Okay, getting married in August. Old chapel with an outdoor tent reception amidst beautiful gardens. Elegant, but not too stuffy and formal. My gown is fancy! Groom doesn’t want to wear a suit. His alternative: black dress shirt, black tie, black vest, black dress pants, black dress shoes. Myself, I thought this could look sharp. And with the old chapel and my more antique-y dress (due to the ivory colour of the dress, I would want him to stay away from white anyways) But my parents flipped! Started going on about, “Do you want a bbq wedding? bride and groom burgers?!” Is this entirely faux pas? Does it take away from the elegance? Honestly …?
Elegant attire is a full suit. If your dress hits the ground, he should wear a suit. He coud take it off later during the reception. He’s going to be wearing the jacket for maybe an hour straight. 60 years ago men used to wear jackets and ties all the time to work and formal events, winter and summer. I’m sure he could endure it for an hour or so. The jacket is part of the look. Cary Grant and Clark Gable would never go to wedding in just their shirtsleeves
