How do I turn down plans b/c I don’t have the money?
I’m a bridesmaid for my boyfriend’s friend, and we are getting closer, so that’s cool, considering I don’t have many friends here since I moved last year.Being a bridesmaid is expensive. Plus, I’m in school, and I don’t have a very high paying job. And rent in Chicago is expensive.
She wants to have all the bridesmaids hang out next week, but my paycheck is already spent for rent and tuition, not to mention I’ll have to buy groceries. I don’t get her wanting us to have dinner and go bowling, a good $20 I can’t afford considering the bridal shower I have to help pay to decorate and buy a gift for, and the bacheloreete party, plus dress, shoes, etc.
How do I say to her, especially since she isn’t a close friend, that I can’t hang out b/c I’m so poor I don’t even have $20? Is she going to believe me that it’s the money? I really do want to hang out with her,but then I won’t have bus fare to get to work/school. I don’t want her to think I don’t like her and that I’m lying.
You can be honest with her and tell her the truth. Hopefully she isn’t a Bridezilla, and she will understand. Talk to your boyfriend about it. You might get surprised by him giving you the $20, and you won’t have to tell the bridesmade anything. The worst thing to do is not attend and not offer an explanation as to why.
